GET
INVOLVED
GoldenFleece
gathers in Washington DC on the First Tuesday of every month at
7:00PM.
These sessions
are open to anyone interested in exploring and experiencing the
various aspects of storytelling/narrative and their uses in the
workplace.
We welcome
newcomers heartily.
Each
month, different member(s) of our community volunteers to lead an
interactive session.
Topics might include the demonstration of a technique, process,
exercise, or conceptual framework; the discussion of a story-related
theme; and of course, no session is complete without our share of
engaged storytelling.

Meet with an
Executive from the Office of Naval Research who will talk about
real business problems allowing GF members to discuss ways in which
story can be employed to tackle them.
We start
our "official" program at 7:00pm.
There's always a good number of people who come early, between 6:30
and 7:00pm, to eat together. People bring their own food and enjoy
each other's company.
Cost
of attendance is $10 per person to cover room costs. There's no
need to RSVP, just show up.
Location
We currently meet in Quebec House, South Apartment
bldg in northwest Washington, DC , 2800 Quebec St., NW (just off
Connecticut Ave. It's about five blocks south of the Van Ness area
and four blocks north of the zoo in Cleveland Park.)
Here
are directions:
Parking can be at a premium in my neighborhood so it is suggested
that people take metro if they can.
Metro Directions:
Take the Red Line to the Cleveland Park Metro Station.
Exit on the East Side of Connecticut Ave (After you've gone up the
escalators from the kiosk level of metro, you can go right or left
for escalators to the street. Go to the right. This puts you on
the east side of Connecticut Ave.)
When you reach the street you will be facing south. TURN AROUND
and head north. At the first corner--Connecticut Ave and Porter
St., NW--you will see an Exxon Gas Station (on the southeast corner.)
You will also see a large synagogue on your left.
Quebec Street is on the LEFT side of the synagogue and Porter Street
runs down a hill on the right side of the synagogue.
CROSS Porter Street and go right and you will end up on Quebec Street
and on the left side of the synagogue.
Walk past the synagogue and QUEBEC HOUSE SOUTH will be on your right
immediately after the synagogue (2800 Quebec St., NW) Walk down
the driveway (you'll be going down a hill) to the entrance. Tell
the front desk that you are here for a private Golden Fleece event
in the Social Room on the Second Floor.
If you're coming by car:
You can ask at the front desk for a parking pass that lets you park
either in front or behind (access from Porter St.) the bldg if there
are any open spaces (they fill up fast.) Otherwise it will be two-hour
street parking until 9:00 pm.
From 495 Beltway,
Take the Connecticut Ave exit going SOUTH on Connecticut Avenue
towards Chevy Chase and Washington, DC
Take Connecticut from the beltway into Washington, DC.
Turn LEFT on Porter Street (Porter is about 5 miles from the Beltway)
at the Exxon gas station and traffic light. (After you turn right
you'll be facing a large synagogue.)
Take an IMMEDIATE left onto Quebec at the next traffic light--after
you turn onto Quebec you'll be on the left side of the synagogue.
Quebec House South is just past the synagogue on the right side
of the street (the entrance is down a little hill.) The address
is 2800 Quebec St., NW. The phone number of the front desk is 202-686-2220

Actually, there
are two listservs.
One is the local
listserv for the Washington DC area, called
the GoldenFleece list. This is a list intended mainly for people
who live in or around the Washington D.C. area in the U.S.A., and
who would like to hook up with other storytelling practitioners
in the area. They meet once a month to discuss storytelling in organizations,
and you can join by (1) sending an email to:

and
(2) remembering to put "Subscribe
Goldn-Fleece" in the subject line. (Otherwise
your email may be blocked by spam filters or deleted.)
The other is
WorkingStories, the international
listserv for anyone in the world interested in organizational storytelling.
You subscribe to this list by going to
this page.
Which
list should you join?
If you're from outside the Washington DC area,
the more obvious choice is the Working
Stories listserv. If you sign up for the
Golden Fleece list, which is possible, you will get a fair bit of
traffic about meetings, parking, and so on, that may not be of very
much interest to you if you're living on the other side of the planet.
Nevertheless, if you are from out of town, and you want to stay
in touch with the folks in Washington DC, feel free to join the
GoldenFleece
list.
If on the other
hand, you're in the Washington DC area,
you will certainly want to join
the Golden Fleece listserv, because this is how
you get notice of meetings and other relevant doings in the area.
But you may also want to join the Working
Stories list, so that you stay in touch with the various
global conversations that take place there.

position. Annabelle Reitman, Ed.D., is a career management consultant
with more than 30 years experience working with a diverse clientele.
In addition to High Level Resumes, her publications include Take
Charge of Your Career (ASTD Press, 2003). Annabelle writes career
management articles for web-based and print publications. She was
recently appointed as the first Coordinator for the American Career

The Irish invasion happened on Tuesday, July 5th. Our guests are
24 young, bright college students, here on an 8-week internship
with the Washington-Ireland Program for Service and Leadership (WIP).
Our own Paul Costello, Director of this narrative-based program,
facilitated the evening of story telling and story listening. Check
